Swades
As part of my motto of trying and experiencing new stuffs, you'll never believe it: i went to watch a Bollywood movie at the theatres! Swades
Was resistant initially, afterall, its $10 and its 3.5 hours!. But found tat it didnt take long for me to enjoy it! Its not the typical bollywood with lots of senseless dancing numbers and loud shrill voice. Its a touching story which won over my heart with sensible dancing scenes. Trust me on that, please!
Anyway, wat touched me about that story was that it was about the male lead (shah rukh khan) indian-born-US-bred who went back India to find a piece of his family and childhood, and wanting to bring it back to USA where he's made a mark. However, he learnt about the plagues about a village and saw that the village's fervent hold on Culture and Tradition is hampering its progress and causing possible backslide in their quality of life. He was desvastated by the state and mindset that he resolved to do something... To find the ending, go pop by Bedok Princess cinema ( i think its Princess) and learn something about India. Oh yes, i laughed at numerous instances too. Watching it at certain times, reminds me of the days when i was reading Malgudi Days for Lit. I miss those days of Malgudi Days and Literature classes..
Oh yes, if it helps, the leads were goodlooking. Which brought me to ask my acquaintance later, a question, which tat person totally couldnt give me an answer that i was looking for: that IF the leads were not so eye-candy material, would i have been so bought over by the story and mesmerised and sit through for 3 and half hours?
Enjoy! Go watch it!!
